A link to a whole playlist converts only the video it points to, not the full list.
Convert YouTube to MP4 on any device
Android
In the YouTube app tap Share > Copy link, open this page in Chrome, paste and press MP4. The file lands in Downloads and shows up in the gallery.
iPhone and iPad
Copy the link the same way and open the page in Safari. After the download, open Files > Downloads, tap the video, then Share and Save Video to put it in Photos.
Windows, Mac and Chromebook
Select the URL at the top of your browser window, copy it, drop it into the box here and press MP4. The browser then asks where to save, or puts the file in the Downloads folder by itself.
MP4 or MP3?
Choose MP4 to keep the picture: music videos, tutorials, clips for editing. Choose MP3 when only the sound matters, such as songs, podcasts or talks; the file is around ten times smaller. One link gives you both, so nothing stops you from saving a video copy and an audio copy.
Link to MP4 in a few seconds
Short music videos are usually ready in seconds. A long video takes longer because the whole file is prepared before the download starts. If the bar stops with a message, read the code: videos over about 30 minutes, live streams and age-restricted videos cannot become an MP4.
What 720p looks like on your screen
On a phone, a 720p MP4 fills the screen sharply in both portrait and landscape. On a laptop or a TV in full screen it looks a little softer than YouTube's sharpest settings, which is the price of a file you can keep offline and send to a friend. The MP4 never gets better than the upload: when a video was posted in 480p or 360p, the file has that quality, because converting cannot add detail that was never there.
YouTube Shorts to MP4
In the Shorts player tap Share, then Copy link; the link looks like youtube.com/shorts/… Paste it above and press MP4. The video stays vertical, the way it was filmed, and a one-minute Short is usually a small file of a few megabytes, so it is quick to save even on mobile data.
Paste a link or search by title?
A link is exact: you get the very upload you were watching. Search is handy when you only remember the song or the artist. Type the words, press Search, and check the length and the channel name on each row before you press MP4. Preview plays the video in the page, which helps you pick the artist's own channel rather than a blurry re-upload.
If the YT to MP4 download does not start
- Incomplete link. Copy it again with the Share button; a link cut off in the middle cannot be read.
- In-app browser. Pages opened from inside Instagram, Facebook or Telegram may not save files. Open the page in Chrome or Safari instead.
- Download question. Safari and some Android browsers ask before saving; tap Download.
- Other sites. Only YouTube links are accepted. A TikTok or Facebook link is refused with a message.
- Playlist link. Only the video the link points to is converted. To save more videos from a playlist, open each one and paste its own link in turn.
